Books

The Happy Philosopher recommends books. Just read something, but stay away from news. Books are awesome! Get a library card immediately if you don’t already have one! If that fails you can buy them from one of the links below.

Man’s Search For Meaning should be required reading for every human. It will change the way you think about suffering, meaning and happiness. One of the best books I’ve read.

Your Money or Your Life is a must read. It is a little dated, but it is the best manual for how to change your relationship with money I have come across. It helps you value and respect your money because in essence you trade your life energy for it.

How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World you will either love or hate. It took two reads to really comprehend because the book is so radical and contrary to the conventional wisdom we are taught. It is likely parts of the book will not agree with you, and this is OK. Stay with it because the concepts will change your life once you embrace them.

Radical Acceptance is my favorite book on meditation and mindfulness in the Buddhist tradition. This book and her free guided meditations are all you need.

A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy will teach you stoicism, the philosophy chosen by 9 out of 10 happy philosophers. This book is way simpler to understand than ancient Roman texts.

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing is a philosophy book first, a how-to book second. It will change your relationships with your stuff and change your perspective on many things in life. It will bring you joy.
